More Books Congratulations! You’ve written and published your book. But once the initial excitement of seeing your words in print dies down, you are probably wondering now what? You’re not alone. So many authors and entrepreneurs put long hours and lots of energy into writing their book and then getting the book published. Perhaps, like them, when you told your friends and colleagues you were writing or publishing a book, they were excited for you. “Let me know when it comes out,” they told you. So now your books are ready for purchase and you’re wondering “what happened to all those people who said they wanted to buy my book?” Those boxes full of books in your garage are attracting nothing but dust and spider webs. Book signings aren’t enough Perhaps you held book signings at local stores. All your friends came and bought a copy, a grand total of 25 copies sold. Or you published an ebook you’re selling on your website. Even if you’re getting a decent number of people visiting, your book sales hardly justify the expense of designing, hosting, and managing your site. It’s not that book signings, getting the book into bookstores, and other traditional forms of book marketing are bad. It’s just that they’re not enough. So what does it take? To sell hundreds and thousands of books, you need to create opportunities for your audience to find out who you are and what you have to offer. Experienced marketers know most people need to see a sales message seven times or more before purchasing. This is why a few book signings are not nearly enough. Repackaging your expertise creates opportunities to sell your book So how do you create those 7+ opportunities for your prospective readers to learn about your terrific new book? Glad you asked. Many of the authors we work with wrote their book to share something they have lots of knowledge about. They’re experts on something and they wanted a way to share their experience and know-how with others. And, of course, the revenue earned selling the book! However, just because someone needs what you offer doesn’t mean they want to buy a book to get it. Today, there are dozens of ways to get information. Your prospective reader can download articles from the Internet, read blogs, ask questions in a discussion forum, listen to recorded interviews, or watch a video on YouTube.com. To reach these customers, you need to repackage your expertise to match the way they like to get information. In particular, you can repackage what you know in sample-sized bites. Your prospective customers can get a taste of what you offer and if they like it, they can buy your book to get the full course. We call these repackaged, bite-sized samples, “information products.” Sounds good, but how do you begin creating these information products? Introducing the Information Product Road Trip An easy (and fun) way to repackage your expertise We created the Information Product Road Trip specifically for authors like you who have worked hard to write a book you can feel proud of, but are struggling to find budget-friendly ways to promote your book.
